Syd aka “Syd Tha Kyd” (not to be confused with Sid the Kid) is previously known for being a member of the band The Internet who’s genre is classified as neo soul. Syd’s music had previously gone unnoticed to me because of her genre but this new single’s synth sounds and drum kicks brings it into our wheelhouse of music taste. Her debut solo album, Fin, is out today February 3.

I always enjoy seeing DJ/music producers who use their influence to promote up-and-coming artists. Ben Maxwell takes the new pop track by XYLØ and ever so gently twists it into the dance track he sees potential in. This one begs to be turned up on your sound system 🔊.
If trap/electronic isn’t your scene, the original track stands up on it’s own, the official music video below:
For #throwbackthursday we’ve got our latest addition in our In Case You Missed It series. We’re jumping back to June last year when Hippie Sabotage dropped this gem High Enough on SoundCloud, a “flip” (aka remix) of Halsey‘s 2015 smash hit Gasoline. Embedded below is an unofficial video by Nato Gogichashvili which has far surpassed the listen count on SoundCloud and now has over 8 million views. High Enough turned into their followup hit to when the Sacramento brothers first broke onto the music scene in 2014, when their Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High) Remix was picked up by Tove Lo as an official single on her Truth Serum (EP).
We didn’t get a post out in time for Black Beatles when it came out Sept 2016, which is now at a crazy 300+ million views on Youtube, so we’re making sure we’ve got Rae Sremmund’s follow up hit on here. 2016 was a breakout year for the two brothers, but before Black Beatles their previous 2 singles Now That I Know (too slow) and Shake it Fast (terrible video) were not nearly as good, here’s hoping they continues on this trend.
I’ve found Krewella have been hit or miss ever since their smash hit Alive back in 2013. They have explored different sounds and styles but seem to have found another great track with the release of Team. They are back in the studio working on new music for a potential new album. Hopefully it has more of the same sound as this single, we are really digging it.
DJ Snake’s new video The Half is riding off the success of his last month hit Let Me Love You ft. Justin Bieber. Previous to that, you probably recognize the french producer most famously for his hit with Lil Jon – Turn Down for What. The Half is DJ Snake’s 4th official single off his debut album Encore.
We can’t really consider this one as a “before the charts” post, but we still felt it was worthy of a write-up. Migos has the number one song on the Billboard top 100 charts this week with Bad and Bougie. The hype for the group and song has been helped by a ton of memes and a recent shoutout by Donald Glover at the Golden Globes who called Migos the “Beatles of our generation”. Their upcoming album Culture is set to drop on January 27th.
Today has been termed “Blue Monday” since it is the most depressing day of the year, so we couldn’t think of a better song to post for today. Hopefully this one gets you bobbing your head or puts a smile on your face 🙂
Macklemore has a mega hit on his hands again, this time shedding some light on how Big Pharma and crooked doctors are getting people hooked on opioids just to line their pockets. As a former addict, Macklemore teamed up with President Obama earlier this year and created a documentary on MTV about the opioid crisis. Love it when Macklemore goes hard like he does here, the topics and even it’s visuals reminds me of his 2011 hit Otherside. Living in Seattle, his hometown, I’m already regretting not taking advantage and seeing Macklemore at Bumbershoot 2016. Also, since we haven’t posted on Macklemore before, I gotta give a shoutout to my favorite track of his (especially around St. Patrick’s Day each year), Irish Celebration, less played than many of his other hits.
Zara Larsson has another #1 single on her hands. Building off the success of her single last year, Never Forget You in collaboration with MNEK, earlier this year Tinie Tempah released one of my favorite tracks of 2016: Girls Like featuring Zara on vocals (mega post there on Tinie Tempah if you need a catchup). Then in June, Larsson was featured in the official song of UEFA Euro 2016, David Guetta’s This One’s for You. “Ain’t My Fault” is the first single off her upcoming 2nd studio album, name and release date TBD. There’s also a killer remix by R3hab if you’re looking for a more club version of the song below.
Toronto native The Weeknd is back with another big featured artist – Daft Punk. It’s the first single off his upcoming third album by the same name “Starboy” out November 25th. Last year he released his most popular single to date with The Hills (which is closing in on a billion views now on Youtube) and he built on it’s success even more scoring The Hills remixes featuring Eminem and Nicki Minaj. This time he’s got a pink neon cross and looking to get some anger out, we’ll see if his new Album will do as well.
